Many of the creeks in South Gippsland are lined with tree ferns, tall mountain ash, eucalypt, wattle and blackwood trees. This one at Turtons Creek Reserve is no exception, but the trouble is they also tend to be over-run with ragwort, blackberry and other weeds especially in the more secluded areas.

The cute little waterfall further up stream is lovely to watch here though, and you can even enjoy a picnic, go fishing or camping in the small reserve found nearby.

South Gippsland has some of the best beaches in Australia – with beautiful outlooks, clean sand, shiny shells and so many places where you can explore the rockpools.

This interesting collection of shells were found right next to the San Remo Jetty on the way to Phillip Island in South Gippsland, an extremely popular holiday destination.

Inverloch – A truly delightful place to visit, have a bite to eat at one of the boutique-style cafes, (I really like the Tsunami Cafe for their gluten free menu), shop for antiques, home furnishings and clothing, take a drive to the Bunurong Coastal Park, stay at one of the luxury accommodation places or at the RACV Resort, or simply relax on the beach at Anderson Inlet.

Inverloch make a great 2 hour day trip from Melbourne and can be accessed from either the Bass Highway or from the South Gippsland Highway (turn right at Korumburra or Leongatha). Good family environment with a shell museum, boating facilities, excellent fishing spots, safe swimming and have fun exploring the many rock pools.

Powlett River would have to be one of the shortest rivers in Victoria – but don’t let its length fool you – it is really quite beautiful.

I really don’t know much about its history, but apparently it is near this spot that the new desalination plant (at Wonthaggi) is propsed to be built.

So happy to see about 6 whales very close to shore at Waratah Bay today … the first time I’ve seen them yet apparently they are sighted in the area each winter as they calve or just rest fairly close to the sheltered shoreline.

I couldn’t help myself when I was out on Saturday…this mother and baby were doing their washing in the local Foster laundromat…what a beautiful portrait we produced in only a couple minutes…priceless.

I so much prefer lifestyle portraiture to studio work. You can capture people in their natural surroundings and make magical photographs come to life.

I’ve been learning lately how important it is to work at what you love to do…miracles seem to happen and pave the way for you to do even more of “What You Love To Do”…and in my case, even earn a nice income from it.

Ever since I took up photography again, I have a hankering for taking pictures of flowers…both macro and botanical shots…even flowers from the cemetery.

I have huge galleries of flower pictures in all sorts of glorious colours…and it just makes me wonder, how I might turn my love of photographing flowers into some sort of business.

Heaven knows I have the professional photography equipment to handle working for a magazine, book publication, publisher etc…I just wonder where this thought might lead and how I might get maximum use from my new Canon 5D II and the magnificent array of ‘L’ seriens Canon lenses I own!

A friend told me I should visit Mount Worth State Park because she thought it was even nicer to photograph than the beautiful Tarra Bulga National Park.

Well, I was quite blown away on my first visit last week and have taken a huge gallery of beautiful photographs of the native bush at Mount Worth State Park.

I found it by following the signs from Mirboo North and believe it to be well signed from the Korumburra and Warragul directions as well….stunning location, well worth a visit.

Turtons Creek can be found on a windy dirt track in South Gippsland between Mirboo North and Foster.

It is often lined with weeds and wild blackberries, but the waterfall is a lovely spot to visit in the warmer months and several small rock pools like this one are pretty to photograph … and the fishing is apparently quite good here too.

I’ve been asked to do quite a bit of graphic design lately using photographs.

A picture can say so much more than words – and I think this one for the Foster Photography Club works quite well…my daughter was in one of her “let’s take pictures” moods the day this was shot.

We found this gorgeous baby wombat wandering among the charred remains of the forest at Mirboo North / Darlimurla after the bushfires raged through parts of Gippsland in February 2009.

The peaceful town of Port Albert has quite a nice range of enjoyable things to do throughout the year with fishing competitions, festivals and sailing boat trips.

The old port walking track takes in bushland as well as the beach as is just one of the healthy lifestyle activities that can keep the whole family occupied while you’re staying in one of the quiet coastal towns along Victorias shoreline.

You’ll see some unusual flora on the shores of Corner Inlet Marine Park and there’s nothing nicer than taking a sailing trip through these protected waters.

Let’s go “into the woods” with the Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood. STEPHEN SONDHEIMS’ musical certainly brings a light hearted and colourful aspect of a range of fairy tales onto the stage with a meaningful ending that brought tears to my eyes.

Performed in Foster Victoria, be memebers of FAMDA in October 2009 this great show was worth seeing more than once.

It’s delightful to see students from the Foster Secondary College enjoy playing a game with the residents from the local nursing home.

I had some fabulous beauty treatments today at Essential Body Basics in Foster. A microdermabrasion and some oxygen therapy made my skin feel thoroughly rejuvenated…and heaven knows I needed it!

The southern end of the Ninety Mile Beach begins near Woodside on the East Coast of Victoria.

The sand is usually white and clean on most Australian beaches in Gippsland and South Gippsland…how lucky we are!

Be careful of the undertow if you are planning on swimming.

One of our local South Gippsland artists Marilyn Ardley, created a community theme based exhibition which was held at the Stockyard Gallery in Foster.

I thought it was such a fabulous idea to have pictures of local people placed creatively on display along with a comment from each one. This unique concept brought many visitors from the surrounding towns like Foster, Meeniyan, Fish Creek, Sandy Point, Welshpool and others.

The photograph above is of Winsome from the Meeniyan Art Gallery who happily browsed through the interesting displays on opening night.
