I’ve taken photos of all sorts of birds and these large white Sulphur-Crested cockatoos are abundant in many parts of South Gippsland and native to Australia. They can be quite noisy when they play in flocks but fun to watch as they do acrobatics in the trees.

When I was growing up, we always had a tame galah or “cocky” kept in a large cage and if they’re found young enough, can be easily taught to talk. Sometimes we’d let them fly around inside the house and my mums shoulder or head would usually provide the favourite perch when it wanted a rest.

This one was photographed in the wild, feeding in the grasslands on the way to Wilsons Prom National Park.
